CONCEPT
CHANGING THE NARRATIVE.
Basketball. The ultimate high-stakes game of skill, discipline, endurance, and preparation. Ask the average boy what he wants to be when he grows up and more often than not, you will hear him say," I want to be in the NBA." The presumptive narrative surrounding their hoop dreams usually includes a single-mom household filled with economic adversity serving as the fuel that propels that young boy into fame and fortune. For some that is a true story. But what about the other story?
Presenting...FATHERS OF THE GAME an exciting new docuseries that highlights the fathers behind their NBA sons. With millions of dollars, contracts and endorsements at stake, these fathers perform a delicate dance between balancing their role within the family dynamic and their role as a disciplinarian, friend, business partner and most importantly as a father. Get a sneak peek into the lifestyle of both father and son, the
wins, the losses and everything in between.
According to a new study, NBA players are more likely to come from two-parent,
Wealthier family homes than that old notion of trying to escape from poverty.
This new bombshell goes totally against the previous presumptive narrative that most elite black athletes overcome poverty on their way to the top.
KARL TOWNS
Karl Towns, Sr is the father of NBA player Karl Anthony Towns, Jr. For the years of 2021-2022, he joined the Keran University men’s basketball staff for his second season. Towns previously coached at Middlesex County College for one season in 2017-18. Prior to MCC, Towns coached at the Piscataway Vocational and Technical School from 1995 to 2010. He collegiately played at Monmouth College (1983-85), Mercer County College (1982-83) and Middlesex County College (1981-82).
Towns graduated from Monmouth in 1985, where he ranks 11th all-time in rebounds (515), holds the single-season record for rebounds (319) during the 1984-85 season and holds the single- game record for rebounds with 23 against Morgan State on Jan. 12th, 1985.
Town's dedication to his community inspired him to create
The Kat Team Foundation with the purpose of helping young people wanting to further their education but lack the financial resources to do so. The United Negro College Fund tapped Karl on the shoulder to join forces in providing these opportunities to deserving students.
Towns, Sr has had a fair share of devastation in the past few years. He and his wife contracted the Corona virus and although he made a full recovery, his wife did not. Her passing and six other family members made a deeply emotional impact on his life, inspiring him to donate money to the Mayo clinic for patients fighting this deadly virus.

CHARLES PAUL
Paul was born in Anderson, South Carolina, but his family moved to Winston-Salem when he was four. He went to several schools because of forced busing, and wound up graduating from East Forsyth, where he played football, then went on to Winston- Salem State.
Paul worked at a Philips electronics plant that made surveillance
equipment. Paul spent his entire 401(k) to pay the fees so his son
could play AAU basketball. Charles began coaching his sons and
eventually coached different teams. During Chris’ junior and
senior years, he served as an assistant coach at West Forsyth. He
has coached the YMCA and AAU teams in his son’s school since
fifth grade. He was an assistant coach at West Forsyth in Chris'
junior and senior years, when Chris blossomed into a McDonald's
All-American.
Although Charles does not coach any teams now, he appears in
every game of Chris. He and his wife represent their son at
dinners and functions that he cannot attend. Charles also gets
respect from several other basketball players.
In December 2021, Ja Morant gave his jersey to Charles after
hitting the game-winner on the Suns.

MARVIN WILLIAMS SR
Marvin Williams Sr., the father of 15-year veteran Marvin Williams Jr., is not shy. On the contrary, he’s so outspoken about his life and experience that he wrote a book about it in his book – Secondary Break: An NBA Dad’s Story.
Williams Sr.’s path began at the height of the civil rights movement in Brooklyn, NY. His childhood was split between New York and the South, including an impressive high school basketball career in North Carolina. Despite receiving multiple scholarship offers, he decided to forego basketball to join the Navy.
But while Williams Sr. is an outspoken advocate of the game of basketball, racial equality and a number of other topics that are important to him, he’s not a show-off and he doesn’t say any more than he must.
Williams Sr., and NBA dad Charles Paul, have an organization called Fathers and Men of Professional Basketball." The goal of the platform is to change the narrative that the media portrays black athletes as only having moms with no dad's having a present role in their sons lives. This is an area of sincere focus for William's Sr., and he leads by example.
